Mapping of patient journey involves the creation of a visual representation (picture or model) of the relevant procedures and administrative processes of the therapeutic management of a specific condition or treatment from the perspective of the patients and involved healthcare professionals.

Tracing the patient journey gives insight on how to improve the quality of healthcare and aims at the same time to maximize clinical efficacy and efficiency by eliminating ineffective and unnecessary care.
